Some of the data used to determine these standards are taken from the Bowls Game analysis. Other Standards are estimates until further testing is completed and the results become more reliable. Currently they can be used as a good guide about the Standards expected at different levels. This of course is dependant in the playing conditions and may be more or less as the circumstances apply.

This type of measurement using standards are an excellent motivator and can be used in any practices or in a real game evaluation. Any testing done against these standards should be done in good to ideal conditions. ie little wind, reasonably true green and green speed somewhere in the 13 - 16 sec range.

Percentage success rates are most important in learning tactics and shot selection. Calling players on low-percentage shots is usually bad skipping and can lead to the opposition picking up high scores on an end. A poor skip will blame his players for failing to convert or play the perfect draw shot when a weighted shot is easier. As you can see the trail shot is one of the lowest percentage success rates even with State level players. Disciplined weighted draw shots will get better results than  calling for the trail shot.

Performance and skill goals can be set using standards and provides a real focus on the skill and resultant performance.

If you have comments or results from skill evaluation please send them in and they can be added to this section.
