This will depend on many factors and whether the plan is for a Team, Club or individual. There are a few principles to follow that will give you the basic fundamentals for a good plan. However, despite all the planning and effort, any season coaching plan needs to be dynamic, ie it must be flexible and be able to be changed as the season progresses. Principles Develop a good understanding of the GOALS that the Team or Individual wants to achieve. Get a COMMITMENT from the individuals to work on the Coaching Plan in order to achieve the rewards. Segmentation: Divide the season up into parts and then plan the activities for each part. eg Off- Season; Pre-Season; First Half of Season; Second Half of Season; Finals; Post Season. Determine the relevant objectives to be achieved during each part of the plan, ie Is it skill development? Mental skill development?, Improve competitive pressure play?, Fitness improvement? Plan the weekly program in order to achieve these objectives, ie practice sessions Pre-season will focus on different things to sessions just before the finals. Use various methods to measure the players/Teams performance. Do not ignore the less technical side of performance ie allow players to enjoy themselves, encourage social activities to develop Team spirit and self esteem. Motivate rather than criticize. Monitor the health and well-being of the players so they can benefit from hard sessions and be fit to play competition. Write out the Game Plan and present a summary to the players/Team before you start. Two or three times during the Season conduct a brief SWOT analysis on the Team/player and redirect the Coaching Organise additional competitions/ practice matches to really get the players performing prior to the main event. Rehearse the game day events with the players so they are ready. Be particular with any changes to routine that elite events will necessarily impose, ie security procedures, waiting, queues, crowd reaction, introductions, changed playing environment. Allow individuals to develop within the Team environment. Provide opportunities for keen players ti do more. Get players to practice hard and put plenty of time into their game. Winning will be the CONSEQUENCE of good planning and hard work.
